

Belen was born in Valley Junction, Iowa on November 11,1927 to Tomasa Hernandez and Tirso Perez of Guanajuato, Mexico. As a small child, she moved with her family to Flint, Michigan where she spent most of her life. She was married to her dear husband Raymond for nearly 60 years until his death in 2012. Belen was a graduate of Flint Northern High School and a life-long active parishioner of All Saints Catholic Church, and more recently St. Matthew's Roman Catholic Church in downtown Flint. Belen graduated from Baker's College and worked in the Tabulating Department at the Buick in Flint.
In addition to her husband, Belen was preceded in death by four sisters and four brothers. She is survived by her four children: Veronica Lazzarino (Anthony), Christine Martinez (Robert), Joseph (AnitaRose), and Mary Young; thirteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; her sister, Mary Ellen Deveson (Ivan);brother, Frank; and many nieces and nephews.
Belen loved to spend time with her grandchildren, rolling out tortillas for them and encouraging them to run the 10-mile Crim Road race with her. If she wasn't training at the Flint YMCA, you could find her gardening at home. Belen enjoyed travelling, especially to Rome and Mexico. She frequented daily Mass and was a member of the Altar and Rosary Societies, attended annual Women's Retreats, Pro-life Marches, and volunteered in the Soup Kitchen at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Belen was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother who enjoyed fitness, especially running, and managing the household. Faith and family, including extended family, centered her life.
Visitation and Rosary will be at 9:00 am with Funeral Mass at 10:00 am on Monday, March 14, 2022 at St. Matthew Roman Catholic Church, 706 Beach St., Flint, Michigan. Entombment at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Flint, Michigan.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Matthew Roman Catholic Church, 706 Beach St., Flint, Michigan 48502.
