David Robert Russell

David Robert Russell, age 82 of Flint, passed away on Wednesday, December 4, 2019. He was born on January 16, 1937 to parents Robert and Ann (Wertman) Russell. David was a graduate of Flint Northern High School in 1956. He joined the Marines just 10 days after graduating and served the country from 1956-1958 before being honorably discharged. In 1960, on October 8th, David married his sweetheart, Carol Schlegelmilch. He worked at GM in Grand Blanc for 41 years and was a member of the Flushing Moose Lodge. Spending time with his family was extremely important to David. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports and he himself, liked to play golf. David is survived by his loving wife, Carol; his daughters: Susan Russell, Kathryn (James) Wolfgang; his son: David Russell; grandchildren: Nicole (Lee) Bishop, Samantha (Nicholas) Reitano, Kayla (Trent) Woods, Zachary Wolfgang, Noah Wolfgang; nieces and nephews: Kerry (Dick) Hastings, Michael (Brooke) Unger, Dale Sweet; great-granddaughter: Maggie Reitano; sister: Marcia (Fred) Unger; sister-in-law: Diane Sweet. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, John Berish; daughter-in-law, Lynn Russell; and his father and mother in-law, Clifford and Louise Schlegelmilch. The family would like to say a special thank you to the Hurley ICU nursing staff. There will be no services and per his wishes, cremation has taken place with inurnment to follow at Great Lakes National Cemetery at a later date. "SEMPER FI"
