MATTAR, Elaine E. (Sweet), age 83, of Flushing, died Saturday, June 9, 2012 at McLaren Regional Medical Center in Flint. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at St. Robert Catholic Church, 310 N. Cherry St., Flushing. Fr. Roy Horning celebrant. Mrs. Mattar will lie in state at the church Tuesday at 10 a.m. The family will receive friends at the Reigle Funeral Home, 5501 W. Pierson Rd., Flushing, Sunday 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Monday noon to 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Rosary service will be held Monday evening at 7 p.m. Interment at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Elaine was born on January 27, 1929 in Flint, daughter of Joseph and Monica (Pietrusinski) Sweet. She graduated from Flint Northern in 1947 and married her High School Sweetheart, Millard Mattar. Elaine, a seamstress by trade, owned and operated Draperies by Elaine for over 40 years. She also worked as a secretary for the Flint Board of Education for several years. She was an extraordinary knitter and did so frequently in various groups. She was an avid dancer who danced into her late 70’s. Elaine was also an enormous sports fanatic who enjoyed watching her children, and grandchildren, participate in all types of athletics. She loved family vacations “up north” as well as her annual pilgrimage to Our Lady of Consolation in Carey, Ohio. She was a member of St. Robert Catholic Church in Flushing and former member of St. Luke Catholic Church. Surviving are her children Monica Mattar and husband George Bevins, of Novato, CA, Rory and wife Bonnie Mattar of Flushing and Michael and wife Kay Lemonds-Mattar of Flushing. She is also survived by grandchildren Nicco Alifano, Sydney Mattar, Carlie Mattar, Dominic Mattar, Luke Mattar, Faith Mattar, Millard Mattar and Calvin Mattar, as well as sister-in-law Helen and husband John Williams, sister-in-law Dorothy Mattar, and brother-in-law Vince Harrison along with many special nieces, nephews and dear friends. In addition to her parents, Elaine was preceded in death by her husband Millard in 1986, and brothers Roy, Martin, Charles, Thomas and Leonard Sweet, and sister Marie (Reno) Wolfe.
