Emerson D. Cross

CROSS, Emerson D., age 96, of Flushing, passed away Sunday, November 29, 2015 at McLaren Hospital. Funeral Services will be 1:00PM Friday, December 4, 2015 at Reigle Funeral Home, 5501 W. Pierson Rd., Flushing. Rev. Terry Bate officiating. Interment will follow at Flushing Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00-8:00PM Thursday and 12:00-1:00PM Friday at the funeral home. Memorial Donations may be made to Flushing Christian Outreach Society.

Emerson was born March 26, 1919 in Wadestown, West Virginia the son of the late Henry Emerson and Tena Evelyn Brewer. He married Mary Louise Tolbert on October 21, 1941 in Wellsburg, West Virginia. Emerson served in the U.S. Army from 1942-1945 assigned to the Philippines during WWII. He and Mary moved to Vassar, Michigan in 1954 and finally settled into Flushing in 1956 where they raised their family. Emerson was employed by General Motors for 30 years, retiring in 1982. He was also a member of UAW Local 659. He was a member of Flushing Community Church of the Nazarene. Emerson enjoyed working on cars and traveling with his beloved, Mary. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather and great-great grandfather. He will be missed dearly and remembered forever.

Surviving are his wife of 74 years, Mary Louise; four children, Larry Cross (Debbie) of Gaines, Bob Cross (Leann) of Gaines, daughter, Marcia Unger (Michael) of Flushing, Charles Cross (Doris) of Davison; 12 grandchildren, Christine Bucholski, Robert Cross, Laurie McBride, Ryan Cross, Tammy Cross, Larry Cross II, Todd Thompson, Carrie Emrick, Jennifer Goad, Rebecca Perry, Kelsey Cross, Devin Cross; 24 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great granddaughter; nephew, James Earl Tolbert (Sue); Roxanne Tolbert (Fred); and several more loving nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by his sister Ruby Opal; brothers, Richard Dale and James Delmar.

The family extends special thanks to Amy Torok and LaKetra Hagler for their loving care and attention for Emerson.
