Frances Margaret Liska Potter Riebe, age 100, passed away Thursday, January 5, 2017 in North Carolina. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, January 14, 2017 at the Swartz Creek Church of the Nazarene, 7154 South Morrish Road, Swartz Creek, Michigan with Pastor Lawrence Gill officiating. Visitation 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Court Street United Methodist Church or Genesee Chapter NSDAR. Frances was born August 1, 1916 in Sycamore, Illinois to Victor Ignatius Liska and Myrtle Isabel (Loomis) Liska. She married Thomas Winfield Potter on August 1, 1933. Fran and Tom were married 45 years and had 5 children; Burton (Jean) Potter, Roberta (Jack) Hibbeln, Victor (Maryann) Potter, Martin Potter, and Margaret (Walt) Neal. Frances received a Bachelors in Early Elementary Education in 1962 at Central Michigan and a Master’s Degree from Eastern Michigan in 1967. Frances taught in the Flint School System for ten years at Doyle, Jefferson, Martin, Zimmerman schools and taught two years in the Head Start Program. Her husband Tom died of cancer in 1978. At the age of 70, she married a second time to Henry Fredrick Karl Riebe on August 10, 1986 when she gained two step-daughters Julie (Bill) Brandy and Nancy (Phil) Prange. They were happily married for 14 years before Hank died of cancer. In 2005, she moved to Brevard, North Carolina where she was a member of St. Timothy Methodist Church. Frances was a member of Genesee Chapter NSDAR, an avid reader, enjoyed knitting, worked crossword puzzles, and played bridge. She leaves behind 16 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by great-grandson Alex Peel, son Martin Potter and a brother James Liska.
