Gordon Arnold Hatcher Sr.
It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of Gordon Arnold Hatcher Sr. A devoted father, and veteran. Gordon left us on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at the age of 76. Born in Tennessee on January 27,1949. Gordon lost both his sisters and his mother at an early age, a tragic event where his car was struck by a train at only 5 years old. He served his country and family with honor and distinction by attending a military academy during that broken youth. Joining the United States Army in December of 1966. His unwavering commitment to family and duty earned him the respect and admiration of all who knew him. Gordon served in Vietnam over 3 tours as a tunnel rat in the infantry. He received numerous awards and decorations for his service, including the honorable Purple Heart. After his military service, Gordon returned to civilian life in Oklahoma, where he continued to serve his community with the same dedication and passion. Gordon possessed incredible trade skills, specifically for carpentry. He was an outdoorsmen with an eye for detail who knew how to put it all together. Gordon married Carolyn Brown and had two beautiful girls while in Oklahoma. Tammy and Connie Hatcher. Shortly after the birth of Connie, Gordon lost his own father. He worked many years for General Motors here in Michigan, and was a long time member of the UAW. It was during this time Gordon re-married to Toniette Boyer, giving birth to his son, Gordon Arnold Hatcher Jr. Many years later, Gordon enjoyed his last and longest marriage to Stacey Fraser, assuming the role of father to his last child, Brian Gib Fraser.
Throughout his life Gordon supported various community and veteran projects, such as Wounded Warriors, The American Legion and local VFW posts. He had a giving soul, always trying to help those around him. He enjoyed reading, puzzles and using his mind, an intellectual through and through. Be it a debate or advice Gordon was easy to talk to and never hard to approach. He was a man of many talents, determined and confident. As his body began to falter his drive and perseverance was apparent to all. If you knew him you knew, Gordon was a fighter. He was sadly preceded by his second daughter Connie Hatcher. She now comforts him while he waits for us with open arms, ever affectionate. Although life was often at odds with him, Gordon was honest, soft and proud to the very end. In the face of his many achievements his crowning role was certainly that of a wonderful father to his four children. Gordon's kindness was a beacon to others. His wisdom was open to all. His heart was wide. Gordon never spared any effort to help someone in need. A true man of his word, and role model to look up to.
Gordon's legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched, and the memories he created with his loved ones. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to inspire us all.
You can now rest in peace, Dad. Your service, sacrifices and compassion will never be forgotten.
