OBITUARY

Karen Ann Colonna

May 24, 1963March 13, 2020

Colonna, Karen Ann of Flushing, age 56, passed away Friday, March 13, 2020 at McLaren Flint. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Karen's life will be held at Reigle Funeral Home/Sunset Chapel, 5501 West Pierson Road, Flushing, Michigan and will be announced at a later date. Karen was born in Flint, Michigan on May 24, 1963. The daughter of Mario and Stephanie (Simoni) Colonna. She was a graduate of Flushing High School and resided in Flushing her entire life. Karen began her working career at Bueche's Food World in Flushing as Phil Bueche's assistant and then for her brother in law at Schaffer GMC Truck Center, Flint in the accounting department. Her compassion and love for animals prompted her to start her own pet sitting business, "Colonna's Critter Sitting Service", where she cared for many Fur Babies. She was very proud of this achievement and her many customers always commented on how they always could count on her for anything. Karen was also very proud of her Italian Heritage and attended many of the Italian Festivals with family and friends. She enjoyed boating in the summer, cooking, and spending time with family, friends and her beloved cats. Karen was one of the most compassionate and caring women you would ever want to know and her family, many dear friends and customers meant the world to her. Her presence will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved her but Heaven has gained an angel. Watch over all of us Karen. Left to cherish her memory are: sister, Suzanne (Donald) Schaffer, brother, Stephen Colonna (Carol Rogers), nieces, Meredith (Brandon) Boone, Holly (Clint) Morey, and Jessica Herron and Josh Smith and several great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.

Karen began as my petsitter, and became a dear friend. When I was feeling low, she would show up with food and gifts to help me feel better. She was always upbeat and loving no matter what was going on with her health. I honestly am saddened by the thought of a world where I can’t just stop by and see her, or get one of her always funny texts. Karen, you are so missed, and you were so loved.

I will miss our many conversations, your smile and sweet spirit at all the gatherings we attended together. Our little reunion planning group has lost another soul way too early. Tell the others we miss them too. I am so sorry for those of us left here to mourn your absence, but I know you are rejoicing in heaven with your parents and the angels that went before you. Love you my friend!

To the Colonna family. I tried to recall when Karen began taking care of my pets . I believe it was 1992. I was one of her first full time customers and she was the best . She always reminded me that my Dad, Phil Bueche was instrumental in her choosing the pet care business as her career. She not only worked for him for many years at the grocery store she continued to she take great care of his Pet when he was away. I think she was the kindest and most compassionate person I have ever known . A gentle soul ! I will miss her so much and feel honored to have been her friend . Sending heartfelt sympathy to your entire family during this sad time.

I can't think of high school weekends and not think of you! You were so much a part of my summertime funtimes! I wish I had kept in touch better than just seeing you when I came home to Michigan. You were such a special soul. Thanks for some wonderful memories, for always loving, and for being a dear, dear person. Until I see you again... Nancy Morris Johnson

Our parents were close friends and we grew up going to all the ITALIAN parties and festivals. Karen was so loving and caring when my mom passed 6 weeks ago. She will be missed by many. May she rest in peace. My prayers are with her family and friends at this very difficult time💔
