Patricia Ann Vierkorn (nee Evans) died peacefully on Wednesday, July 12, 2018 at Fostrian Court Assisted Living in Flushing, Michigan. Patricia is survived by her husband Jack Vierkorn; daughters Karla Monte (James), Carolyn Vierkorn (William Billington), and Katey Vierkorn (Evan McKee); sister Eileen “Pinky” Newberry; three grandchildren Marcus Monte, Mallory Monte and Michael Monte (Megan); and several beloved nieces and nephews, including Deborah Steiner. Her grandson, Mitchell Monte, greeted her in heaven, along with Patricia’s parents George and Pearl (Schoff) Evans; siblings James Evans, Marie O’Connor, Madeline Young, and Janet Evans; and nephew Frank DeLeo. Patricia was born on March 9, 1932 in Altoona, Pennsylvania. She was a star pupil at Altoona Catholic High School. At the age of 21, she bravely moved to California to start her adult life near her brother, James. She was an executive secretary with several firms, including her favorite, Union Oil. She volunteered at the local USO, near Camp Pendleton where she met her husband, the dashing Jack Vierkorn, a corporal in the Marine Corps. Patricia and Jack dated for a short while and were married in 1955. They were completely devoted to one another and inseparable for sixty-two years. If you asked Patricia how they stayed together for so many years, she might say, “we’re just lucky, I guess!” But it wasn’t luck. It was a deep and abiding love that she diligently maintained with grace and religious faith. Patricia loved to dance with Jack, and if you ever saw them glide across a dance floor together, you witnessed something special. We know she is in heaven dancing with the angels right now, free from the physical ailments that plagued her during her final days. Patricia had three daughters and worked hard with Jack to raise their family, overcoming seemingly insurmountable obstacles along the way. Through thick and thin, including life-threatening illnesses, Patricia was determined to raise her daughters to become loving, self-sufficient women. She took great pride in the fact that all three daughters graduated from college and pursued professional careers. Pat enjoyed helping others, happily volunteering and mentoring at churches and other organizations in Ohio, Florida and Pennsylvania. She had a good sense of humor, loved going to church (especially the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in Altoona), gardening, pinochle, classic movies, and fashion. She organized several wildly popular charity fashion shows in her community in Lakeland, Florida, raising money for the homeless. She could be silly and ornery, and fully earned the nickname “Ms. Sassy”. The family wants to give special thanks to the loving staff of Fostrian Court Assisted Living, and friends Shawnelle Dively, Carolyn Clark and Angie Clapp. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in Altoona, Pennsylvania. A funeral service was held on Wednesday, July 18 in Flushing, Michigan with private burial to follow at Logan Valley Cemetery in Altoona, Pennsylvania.
