Shelly Ann Lassiter, 65, of Flint, MI passed away on September 21, 2021 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Shelly was born on August 27, 1956 in Flint, Michigan to proud parents, David and Beverly Storey. Shelly was the baby of five children born to that union. She often joked that she held that title over her twin brother, Ken, by five minutes. Shelly has always had a special relationship with her siblings, especially her sister “Christy” whom she also considered her best friend. She was born and raised in Flint, Michigan, where she has spent most of her life. Shelly often raved that her proudest accomplishment was the birth of her only child, Shannon. She thought the world of her daughter, but we all knew her true pride and joy was her granddaughter, Triniti. She bragged constantly to everyone she met about her smart, beautiful talented granddaughter. Amazingly, Triniti embodies Shelly’s loving nature and sarcastic humor. Shelly married her beloved husband Sam, on November 26, 2004. She always joked that she “finally got it right” and she found the love of her life. Shelly was also a proud “fur mama” to her beloved chihuahua, Pee Wee.
Shelly was a woman of extraordinary faith. She loved God and it was evidenced in everything she did. Even in her last days, she exuded unwavering faith. She served in ministry for over 40 years, recently pastoring a small church with her husband, Sam. She had a passion for showing the love of God to those who felt unloved. She was involved in establishing and growing several ministries, including street and prison ministries. Shelly was a skilled guitarist and psalmist and traveled all over the country worshipping the Lord. Shelly loved others above all else and selflessly gave anything she could to support the people she loved. Shelly never met a stranger. She treated everyone she met like she knew them for years. Shelly also had quite the sense of humor. Her humor and positive personality were infectious.
Shelly leaves to cherish her husband of 17 years, Sam Lassiter, II, daughter, Shannon Halbedel, granddaughter, Triniti Halbedel; sister Christina “Christy” Grice all of Flint, Michigan; twin brother Kenneth (Cherri) Storey of Niles, Michigan. Special Nieces, Anita Porritt, Kim (Walter) McPherson, and Tammy Hoag of Michigan, Mellissa Monday of Florida; nephews Craig (Charyl) Cromwell of Michigan, Alfred “Clint” (Cyndi) Monday of Ohio, and David (Cindy) Storey of Florida; special great-nephew Nicholas Porritt of Michigan; a host of other great nieces, great nephews, and cousins; special God son Le V. Bailey, II, God daughter, Tonya Bailey; and special life-long friends Shari Matthews, Tracey Hopson, Karen Johnson, and Bonnie Brandon.
Shelly was preceded in death by her parents, David and Beverly Storey, and her beloved sisters, Dionne “Dew” Porritt and Sharon Monday, nephews, Baby Mikey and Carl “Butch” Porritt, and special brother-in-law, Carl Porritt.
