GORTON, Shirley Mae of Flint, died peacefully on September 4, 2018 at home surrounded by family. Services will be held Friday, September 7, 2018 at 11am at Reigle Funeral Home, 5501 W. Pierson Rd., Flushing, Pastor Walt Rose officiating. Visitation on Thursday, September 6, 2018 from 1-4pm and 5-8pm. Burial at Sunset Hills Cemetery. Shirley was born in Flint on May 6, 1939, the daughter of the late Eugene and Olive (Sischo) Lathrop. She married Laurence Gorton on May 21, 1955. During their 62 years of marriage they had six children. Larry and Shirley owned and operated Buckler Automatic Lawn Sprinkler until the time of her death. She loved gardening, music, and rummage/antique sales. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and was loved by her church family. Surviving are daughter, Debra (James) Lindsey of Keystone Heights, FL; sons: Steven Gorton of Linden, Bryan Gorton of Flint, Jeffrey Gorton, Gregory (Sarah) Gorton of Flint Twp.; 13 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild; sister, Joanne (Walter) Etheridge of Gaines; sister-in-law, Erma Lathrop, of Philadelphia; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gerald (Mary) Gorton of Burton; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Laurence “Larry” Gorton on June 24, 2017; son, Daniel Gorton; grandson, Jason Ross; brothers: Robert Lathrop and Eugene Lathrop. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Cardinal Hospice Team for their exemplified care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bethel Baptist Church.
