Alfred Gardere was born on April 15, 1947 in Gonaives, Haiti. He came to the United States when he was still a child, with his mother and 2 younger sisters. Following a brief stay in New York, he was sent to a boarding school in Grand Ligne, Canada where he spent his formative years. He went on to the City College of New York where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. He furthered his studies and eventually also received a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Adelphi University.
Alfred was an accomplished Systems Engineer in the Defense Industry, having worked for many notable Government contracting firms such as Loral, Lockheed Martin, United Technologies and Northrop Grumman. He was a specialist in his field, and worked predominantly on satellite communication, guidance systems and radar applications.
During his time in undergrad, he was also fortunate enough to meet his wife Mona of 56 years, who he would eventually marry in Aug of 1972 and settle down with in Flushing, NY. Upon the arrival of their son Marc, they would retreat to the suburbs of Bayside, Queens shortly after, where Alfred would live out the rest of his days.
Alfred had several interests & hobbies, in spite of his affliction with Meniere’s Syndrome and Sickle Cell Disease. In his youth, he liked to ski and play basketball. As he matured, he enjoyed travelling, good food, gatherings with family & friends, and gardening. He was an avid reader, with a deep curiosity for politics, history and how the world worked.
Alfred leaves behind his loving wife Mona, his son Marc, daughter-in-law Diana, granddaughter Sophie and his sisters Patrica Carmargo and Marie Penza. He will be dearly missed and forever loved.
