

Andrew Garczynski passed away on August 25, 2014. Born in Poland in 1924, he was a survivor of Auschwitz, the Nazi concentration camp, where he was imprisoned in 1943. Before he was caught, Andrew, as a teenager, had to bury his father, mother and sister, whom he found killed in their home by a German bomb. In Auschwitz, he was reunited with his older brother, Stanislaw, who was imprisoned there since 1941, and who helped him survive. The brothers were very close to each other, and when Andrew immigrated to the United States in 1951, he lived with is brother and his family for many years, until he got married in 1978.
He was like a second father to his brother's children, Maria, Barbara, Wlodzimerz, and Robert. When his nieces were young, he took them to Polish school on the weekends. Andrew led a very active social life among his Polish friends. He loved to dance, play bridge and travel, which he continued to do with his wife, Zdislawa, until she became incapacitated, and he stayed home with her. Andrew remained physically active till the day he died, walking every day, going to church every Sunday, and taking buses to get to his doctor's visits
Andrew is survived by his Beloved Wife, Zdislawa( Bibik) of Bayside, NY; by his Loving nieces, Maria Lawcewicz, Esq. of Arlington, MA. , and Barbara Wierbicki, Esq. of Garden City, NY; and his Cherished Grand nephew and nieces, Maximillian, Alexandra and Katherine Garczynski of Massachusetts (children of his predeceased nephew Robert. His loving nephew, Wlodzimerz is also predeceased. Andrew also has two grand nieces in Poland, daughter of his first cousins from his mother side, (Bialkowski).

Mass of Christian Burial 9:45am Thursday August 28, 2014 from Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament RC Church 34-24 203rd Street, Bayside, NY. Interment to follow at Our Lady of Czestochowa Cemetery, Doylestown, PA.
