Our Mom was born to a large family (11 children) as was our Dad (8 children). Sundays were for: Mass at Saint Mary’s, a trip to the bakery, then back home for a family breakfast. Afternoons were large extended family gatherings at Grandma’s or Granny’s. There were always aunts, uncles and lots and lots of cousins. Every milestone in life was celebrated; be it a Christening, Birthday, First Holy Communion, Graduation or Confirmation. Our Mom had a strong faith and taught us all from an early age that faith strengthens the family’s bond and always gives us guidance and something to lean on when needed. Saint Mary’s, our parish, was a big part of our lives. Mom and Dad attended countless dances, card parties and social events there, with their many neighborhood friends. We are, of course, all graduates of Saint Mary’s Elementary School. Mom was a member of various clubs in societies over the years; her favorites were First Friday’s and any activity related to crafting. When we, her children, were grown she returned to daily mass and communion. As a child she attended daily mass with her own sweet grandma!
There were five of us in our family: Sue, Mary, Patti, Larry and Kate. We were very close knit family. While Dad was in the Navy, serving and protecting lands near and far, our Mom was always there for us at home. She was an excellent cook, baker and seamstress, but most of all an excellent mother to all of us. She always had a song in her heart to sing. She was easy-going, quick to smile and always engaging. Our summers at Yankee Lake were the highlight of her and our lives. Long before July 4th we were whisked away in the family station wagon to our idyllic mountain hideaway in the mountains where Dad spent his vacation and every weekend with us. Lifelong friends were made there, some still in our lives even to this day. Those who are gone remain in our hearts, always.
We were luckier than most to have Mom for 99 years! She and Dad were true blue for so many years until he passed away. Now she’s with him once again, forever. She will be sorely missed by all but especially by her children, grand children and great grandchildren.
