Anthony Joseph Percivalle 2/7/1925-8/9/2024
Anthony Joseph Percivalle, a proud World War II Navy veteran who served his country with an honorable discharge, passed away peacefully at his residence on Friday, August 9th. He spoke of his days on the Navy ship and the friends he lost in battle which had a profound effect on him as a young man and were etched into his memory; how lucky he was that he survived and others died in his arms. The Navy took him to Hawaii, The Philippines, Papa New Guinea and Japan until the war ended in 1945.
He was the beloved husband of the late Josephine, with whom he shared almost 70 years of marriage, a lifetime of love and devotion. His family was of Italian Catholic decent and they lived in Corona, Queens where his father and mother brought him up as the eldest of 4 boys on their barber shop salary of nickel and dime haircuts. Pre-deceased are his brothers Maurice, John and Raymond.
A few years after returning from war he met Josephine at a cousins wedding and they fell in love. They married and had twins, Rosanne and Joseph and stayed in Corona until moving to Fresh Meadows in 1962 where they remained until her death last year. Anthony worked in the printing business for most of his career as a traditional typesetter and then transitioned to digital printing and finished his working years at the firm Charles P. Young in Manhattan.
Anthony was a loving father to Joseph Percivalle (Lori Christiana) and Rosanne Percivalle. He took immense pride in being a cherished grandfather to Anthony, Laura, and Joseph, and was adored as a great-grandfather by Nathaniel. Anthony will be remembered for his bravery, his sense of humor, his devotion to family, and the enduring legacy he leaves behind.
