Caridad Lorenzo Iglesia (Cherry), a cherished member of the Fresh Meadows, NY community, passed away peacefully at the age of 86 on March 31st, 2024, in her home surrounded by her loved ones. She was a devoted wife, daughter, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.
Born on March 30th, 1938, in Manila,Philippines, Cherry emigrated to the United States in 1971 after marrying Franco Iglesia, with whom she shared 54 years of marriage. Together, they built a life in NYC, where she worked alongside her husband to provide for their family.
After retiring from the Queens Borough Board of Education in 2000, Cherry found joy in spending time with her family and friends at Cunningham Park. She was always ready to brighten someone's day with a snack or a kind word. She enjoyed games like scrabble, crossword puzzles, line dancing, and preparing delicious meals for her loved ones. She was loved by all who knew her. Her ability to bring joy to any situation and her willingness to help others selflessly made her a beloved member of the community. Whether it was offering a listening ear to a friend in need or organizing a fundraiser for a local charity, she always went above and beyond to make a positive impact on the lives of those around her. Her infectious laughter and warm smile could brighten even the gloomiest of days, and her genuine concern for the well-being of others was truly unmatched. She was a shining example of what it means to be truly generous, kind, and caring, and her legacy of love and compassion will live on in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to know her.
Cherry was predeceased by her mother & father Emeteria Lorenzo & Ramon Lorenzo and her Brother(Monching). Cherry is survived by her loving husband, Franco Iglesia of Fresh Meadows , NY; her two children, Jeanette Healy of Fresh Meadows NY, and Melanie Iglesia of Cape Coral, Fl; four grandchildren, Dyllan & Candice Healy , Donovan (with Amy Chan), Melissa (with Kyler Murray), and five great-grandchildren, Ariel Healy, Leon Healy, Angeline Healy, Aiden Chan and Eva Chan. She leaves behind three sisters, two residing in Fresh Meadows, NY, and one in Virginia, as well as numerous dear in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
Cherry's memory will be cherished by all who knew her for her warmth, love, and unwavering spirit. May she rest in peace.
A visitation for Caridad will be held Friday, April 5, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Frederick Funeral Home, 192-15 Northern Boulevard, Flushing, NY 11358. Funeral mass 10:00 AM,Saturday, April 6, 2024 at Holy Family R.C. Church, 175-20 74th Ave, Flushing, NY 11366. A graveside service will follow at Pinelawn Memorial Park, 2030 Wellwood Avenue, Farmingdale, NY 11735.
