Carlo Buzzi

Carlo Buzzi, 92, died on September 17, 2026. Born May 5, 1934, in Scanzano, Province of L'Aquila, Abruzzo, Italy, Carlo carried with him the steady strength of his mountain roots throughout a long life marked by courage, diligent work, and openhanded generosity. A resident of Flushing, New York, he built his life with determination and purpose, always ready to help others—known to many as the kind of man who would give the shirt off his back.

Carlo served in the Italian Army, a chapter of his life that reflected the quiet bravery and discipline that remained part of him in the years that followed. In America, he pursued his days with the pride of a hard-working man, and his commitment to honest labor was further reflected in his connection to Local 1556 Union Strength.

Carlo was married to his beloved late wife, Joan Buzzi for 70 years. He was the loving father of Joanne Barrera and the cherished grandfather of Tiffany Barrera. He was also the dear brother of the late Giacomo, Pepe, Alessandro, Bianca and Ida.

In the rhythms of everyday life, Carlo’s generosity showed itself most naturally at the table and in the garden. He loved to cook—bringing a chef’s care and quality to what he made—and he took equal pride in making wine. His vegetable garden was magnificent, especially the tomatoes and zucchini that spoke to his patience and devotion.His love for the accordion was infectious when he played for family and friends. He was also a member of Assoziazione Nazionake Alpini, maintaining a valued connection to community and his Italian heritage.

Carlo’s life also held a singular moment on screen: he appeared in the 1957 film *Farewell to Arms* with Rock Hudson and Jennifer Jones, playing the bugler in silhouette—an understated role that nonetheless became a memorable detail in the story of a life rich in work, family, and steadfast character.

Visitation will be held at Frederick Funeral Home, 192-15 Northern Boulevard, Flushing, NY 11358, on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mel's RC Church, 26-15 154th St, Flushing, NY 11354, on September 24, 2026, at 9:45 am.

Interment will follow at Mount St. Mary Cemetery, 172-00 Booth Memorial Ave, Flushing , NY 11365, on September 24, 2026.
