Carol Ann Alessi Giampietro, 85, passed away on February 16, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She was the devoted wife of Peter for 65 beautiful years and the proud mother of five children. She is survived by her loving children, Grace and her husband, George; Leonard Paul and his wife, Eileen; Salvatore Peter; Cecelia; Joanne and her husband, Frank; and her cherished grandchildren, Erin Michelle, Jessica Hope, Lazaro (Tito), Samantha, Nicholas Peter, George Peter, Martin Patrick, Peter Thomas, and Gianna Rose.
Carol Ann was born and raised in Queens — first in Ravenswood/Long Island City, and then in Astoria, where she spent most of her life, with her final years in Rockaway. She was one of ten children and grew up surrounded by family, neighbors, and the customers of her parents’ store, Alessi True Value. She was proud of where she was from and never wished to be anywhere else.
Carol and Peter’s story began at Alessi True Value, where her brother Lenny, who also happened to be Peter’s best friend, had encouraged Peter Giampietro to work. With strong encouragement from her mother, the two eventually went out — and Carol married him on her 21st birthday. She spent the next 65 years dedicated to him and the family they built together.
A talented beautician by trade, Carol carried herself with strength, style, and confidence. But her life’s work was her family. While Pete worked multiple jobs and drove a truck twelve to fourteen hours a day, Carol managed a household of eight, including her father-in-law, Sam, or as we called him, Pop Pop. She got the kids off to school, packed their lunches, kept the peace between siblings, and never once put herself first.
Carol A. was the matriarch of our family — tough, fearless, and full of true Italian grandmother love: loud, protective, and always expressed with a plate of food whether you were hungry or not. Her kitchen in the basement of 20-32 was the central hub of our family’s life. Friends, relatives, whoever showed up — there was always an extra seat at the table, and nobody left hungry. Every one of us has a story or a beautiful memory from that little kitchen.
And then there were her meatballs. Her cooking was legendary. Friends who rang the bell looking for one of her kids would get pulled inside and leave bragging about them. Even the UPS and Postal workers hoped their deliveries would land them a plate. That was Carol A. — everybody was welcome, and she showed her love through food.
She loved music and loved to dance, a passion she carried from a young age. She treasured summers and winters at Roseland Ranch and Villa Roma, not because they were fancy, but because they meant being together. She was proud of her Italian heritage and talked about her parents and where they came from often. She spoke her mind, she could outlast anyone, and she never put a limit on spending time with family. She was also a prolific player of Words with Friends, keeping two iPads on rotation so one was always charged — with Pete on perpetual charging duty.
Carol gave us the tools to live. She showed us what was important — to be present, to laugh, to love, and to have a home filled with family and warmth. Her loyalty, strength, and unwavering love are her legacy, and they will live on in our family forever.
Carol A. — you are truly loved and will be deeply missed.
A Funeral Mass was held at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, on Thursday, February 26, 2026 at 10:30 am.
