

Charles Xu, 56, of New York, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2026, at approximately 2:00 PM in New York, with his beloved fiancée, his son, and his sister by his side after a courageous 23-month battle with Stage IV esophageal cancer. He was born on December 29, 1969, in Shanghai, China.
A proud U.S. Navy veteran, Charles served his country with quiet dedication. His sense of duty, integrity, and humility remained with him throughout his life and influenced the way he treated those around him.
Charles is survived by his beloved fiancée, Hanwen Zhang; his loving son, Timothy Xu; his cherished father, King Liang Sy; was preceded in death by his late mother, Yu Zhen Ma; his dear sister, Julia Won; his brother-in-law, Douglas Won; his nephews, Jack Won and Mark Won. He is also lovingly remembered by parents, Ming Lei and Xingdong Zhang, who considered Charles part of their family.
Charles was also a devoted pet parent to his beloved fur babies—Noodle, Dumpling, and Cookie—who brought him comfort, companionship, and unconditional love every day.
In his personal life, Charles found joy in life’s simple pleasures and well-earned adventures. He loved visiting the casino, enjoyed traveling, and had a special appreciation for good food, especially lobster and steak. Some of his happiest moments were spent sharing meals, laughter, and new experiences with the people he loved.
Visitation will be held at Frederick Funeral Home, 192-15 Northern Boulevard, Flushing, NY 11358, US, on July 30, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm. and on Friday, July 31, 2026 from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Calverton National Cemetery from 1:00pm to 1:30 pm.
