Christ N. Economos
February 2, 1929 – May 2, 2019
Christostomos “Christ” Nicholas Economos was born on February 2, 1929 in Politsiani, Northern Epirus to Nicholas and Eleni Economos. He was the oldest of four siblings - Florentina, Vasilios, and Konstantinos. He started working from a young age in Tirana, Albania - a hard worker but a funny one as he was caught eating the cheese he was supposed to be serving!
Christ was fortunate enough to leave communist Albania to come to the United States in 1947 at the age of eighteen. Once he came to the United States, he settled in New York City, working as a bus boy and eventually a banquet waiter.
He entered into the United States Army in 1951 and was honorably discharged 23 months later with a rank of Sergeant.
Christ went to Brockton, MA for a dance for those from Politsiani. There he saw Barbara Giannaros, who he knew from the village from when they were kids. They kept in touch through letters and seeing each other at other events. They got engaged August of 1956 and wed February of 1957. They gave birth to their first child Helen in September 1958 and their second child Alexandra in February 1963.
Christ is survived by his wife Barbara, daughters Helen and Alexandra, grandchildren Michelle, Christopher, Amanda, and Elizabeth, sister Florentina and her husband Nikita, brother-in-law James and his wife Athena, nieces and nephews (Katherine, Anna, James, Constantine, Arthur, Karen and Nicholas), and countless of beloved great (and great, great) nieces and nephews. Family meant everything to him and he was so grateful to have celebrated his 90th birthday this past February with them all.
Please join us in celebrating the life of Christ.
