David was born on November 26, 1961 at Terrace Heights Hospital to Vivian C. Richardson, a former medical stenographer and Alonzo E. Richardson, a chemist. Both David’s parents and his eldest sister, Diane Ware-Richardson are deceased. David is survived by his eldest brother, Ronald A. Richardson; his older sister, Angela M. Richardson; his nephews, Dayequan Ishmael El-Amin and Mark G. Ware; his daughters, Celeste Marie James and Jennifer Symone Richardson; his son, David Richardson, Jr.; his grandson, Trevelian Hall-James; his grandnephew, Qadir El-Amin; his grandnieces, Ashante Flowers, Aminah El-Amin and Michelle Richardson; his first cousins, Linda Beard, Laura Davis, Shirleen Beard ; his sister-in-law, Aida Zanghi-Richardson; his first love, Rachel Harding; his high school chum and friend thereafter to the very end, Anthony Font; his ever-devoted friend of 30 years, Frank Henn, and a host of friends, acquaintances, caregivers, and physicians. David attended St. Catherine’s of Siena Catholic School, I.S. 238, and Martin Van Buren High School. In his youth, David played several sports though basketball was his favorite. He remained an avid sports fan. As the ever outgoing, good-humored individual, David was liked by most. Following administrative jobs in corporate offices, David went on to work as an MTA bus operator in the Bronx. David’s co-workers remember him as the well-groomed operator with sharp creases in his shirts and a forever shine on his shoes. David loved being a bus operator and excelled at his duties. David’s many leisure-time activities included basketball, music, dancing, barbecues and comedy. His easy smile and quick charm drew people of all walks of life to him. David loved to laugh and would strike up conversations with people while standing in line in supermarkets or while seated in restaurants. No matter how uncertain people were of how to respond to David’s outgoing personality, they all walked away smiling. That was David’s gift: the ability to make you smile and laugh. The world has one less light now that the original D-Man, the Winter Baby, my younger brother, is gone. David often said, “A rough road leads to the stars.” Shine on little brother, shine on. You are loved and you will be missed.
