

He was the second oldest of thirteen children. In Indiana, David attended St. Johns Elementary School. In 1943, David, along with his three brothers, relocated to New York City where he attended St. Catherine of Genoa School and Bishop Dubois High School.
Throughout his life, David would take up many trades, but the ones he most enjoyed dealt with using his hands and his creative designs. David was an experienced craftsman placing most of his talents on building porches and cabinets to name a few. David was also an experience locksmith who worked with many local businesses who employed his skills.
David managed the Kenny Car rental company in the Bronx, when they were just a new company starting out, long before there was a Hertz rental car company.
David served his country by joining the National Guards #369 regiment known as the “Harlem Hell Cats”.
David achieved many accomplishments throughout his life. However, he was most proud of being a founding member of the ‘DooWoop’ group called “The Lyrics” performing on the “Ted Mack Amateur Hour” show and as a member of a successful jitterbug dance group where they appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show.
David had an infectious smile that drew many people to him. He was always welcoming, kind, had a great sense of humor and was truly a pleasure to be around.
David enjoyed looking his best at all times and he was by far the best coordinated dresser in the family.
David was a devout Christian who loved God and always gave his services to the church. To that end, David joined the ‘New Apostolic Church’ and was a faithful deacon to that congregation.
Gretel Hicks was David’s soul mate for over 40 years.
On August 16, 1992 he married Gretel Hicks and they would share over 20 years of marriage.
David was preceded in death by his loving wife Gretel, his father, DeWillie and mother, Edna, his brothers Donald, Kevin, Stephen and Francis, his sisters Diane and Sandra, and his daughter Kim.
The Heavenly Father called David home on August 1, 2022.
Left to mourn him are his brothers Ronald, Glen (Denise), and Stanford (Melanie), his sisters Jeanne (Jimmy), Genevieve (Albert) and Theresa, his sons Robert, Kevin, David, Jr Damon, and grandson Marques and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
