

Demetrios Doukas, 86, of Queens, New York, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2026. He was born on September 24, 1939, in Goranoi, Greece, and came to the United States as a teenager in pursuit of opportunity and a better life. Demetrios was the beloved husband of Kalliope Doukas. He was a devoted father to Olga Doukas-Tsampas, Georgia Katehis, and Vasilios Doukas. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Leonidas Tsampas, Maria Tsampas, Aspasia Tsampas, Peter Doukas, and Spiro Katehis, and a cherished great-grandfather to Matteo Tsampas and Vivianna Tsampas. A hardworking and determined man, Demetrios built a life through dedication and perseverance. He worked in hospitality at the Hilton Hotel in Midtown Manhattan, ran his own food vending cart, and later, in retirement, served as a doorman. His journey from Greece to the United States reflected his deep commitment to providing for his family and creating a better future. A man of strong faith, Demetrios was deeply connected to the Greek Orthodox Church. He loved serving as a chanter at St. Barbara’s and other churches and could often be heard singing hymns even outside of church, filling his home with music and spirit. Demetrios will be remembered for his kind heart, strong work ethic, moral convictions, and sense of fairness, honesty, and integrity. He will also be remembered for his sense of humor, love of music, and unwavering devotion to his family. He was always ready with a joke and brought laughter and warmth to those around him. He found joy in simple pleasures, especially tending to his garden and spending time with the people he loved most.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 3, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Frederick Funeral Home, 192-15 Northern Boulevard, Flushing, NY 11358. The funeral service will take place on Saturday, April 4 at 10:30 AM at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 84-35 152nd Street, Jamaica, NY 11432, followed by burial at Flushing Cemetery, 163-06 46th Avenue, Flushing, NY 11358.
