

Edward A. James, nicknamed Sonny from birth, was born on August 5, 1929 at Flushing Hospital to the late Edward and Hilda (Harrison) James. He grew up in Corona Queens. Sonny joined the Army in 1946 and was honorably discharged in 1949. His long work history included work as a radio engineer at WNYC, as radio mechanic for the New York City Department of Transportation and as a radio maintainer for Amtrak. During 30 of the 60 plus years Sonny was in the work force, he also held a second job, getting up at 2:00 AM every morning. In 2008 he retired from Amtrak at the age 78.
Sonny came to know the saving grace of Jesus Christ in 1986. In 2008 he became a member of North Shore Baptist Church in Bayside Queens where he grew in knowledge and grace of the Lord Jesus Christ. In his retirement, Sonny treasured the early morning time he spent with the Lord, reading Scripture and praying. His favorite Scripture is Psalm 51 which he recited every morning.
He leaves his wife Vicki, sons Jerry and Joseph, son-in-law, Peter Bahrenberg, (his daughter, Lisa, predeceased him in March) grandchildren Christopher, Jadon, Julianna, Natalia, and Elizabeth, nieces Darlene Landi, Glori O’Brian and Cabrini Abbetiello, grand nieces, and nephews, extended family and friends.
A visitation will be held at Frederick Funeral Home, located at 192-15 Northern Boulevard, Flushing, NY 11358, on Friday November 28, 2025, from 5:00 pm to 8:30 pm.
An in chapel prayer service will be held by North Shore Baptist Church from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
A graveside committal service will take place at Flushing Cemetery, 163-06 46th Ave, New York, NY 11358, on November 29, 2025, at 9:30 am.
