Elsie was born on March 14, 1935, in the coastal city of Manta, Ecuador. She was the first of eight children born to Miguel Barcia and Zoila Delgado.
In November 1956, Elsie married Gilberto Farfan at Iglesia La Merced in Manta. At just 21 years old, in March 1957, she immigrated to the United States while pregnant with their daughter, Cecilia. After Gilberto completed his military duty the following year, he came to join her. Together, Elsie and Gilberto established a legacy that would span generations and assisted over 40 family members with obtaining U.S. citizenship. They were married for 54 years, until Gilberto’s passing in April 2010.
Elsie is survived by her children, Cecilia, Elsy (John), and Blanchi (Todd); her grandchildren, Todd Jr. (Amber), Christopher, Melissa, Gianna, and Tatiana; her great-grandchildren, Savanna, Madison, and Jameson; and her siblings, Ana Maria, Daysy, Diomedes and Miguel.
In Elsie’s honor, her family wishes to share the words that reflect the way she lived her life:
Sueña en grande, vive sin miedo y ama con fuerza.
