

She was born on May 12, 1959, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, to her loving parents, Maria Del Carmen Dominguez and Manuel Aristides Leguizamon. In 1972, she came to the United States, where she built a life rooted in family, faith, and service to others.
Fatima was a graduate of Bushwick High School. She went on to earn her Bachelor’s degree in Theater from Hunter College and later received her Master’s degree in Special and Early Childhood Education from Touro College. She dedicated her career to shaping young minds as a preschool teacher for the City of New York, where her love for children and passion for creativity made a lasting impact. She brought art, imagination, and warmth into every classroom she touched.
Beyond her career, Fatima gave generously of her time and heart. She volunteered at the Botanical Garden in Flushing, Queens, and taught English as a Second Language at QCAC. She was a devoted and beloved member of QCAC Church, where she not only worshipped but also taught preschool children, touching countless lives through her kindness and faith. She was also proud to be part of the YWCA community, where she enjoyed group activities such as art, dancing, and cooking.
Fatima had a deep love for life’s simple joys. Her favorite pastime was spending summer days at Travers Park, enjoying live music. She found happiness in community, creativity, and connection. Her favorite saying, “Pray and drink tea,” reflected her gentle spirit and outlook on life.
She is survived by her loving daughters, Natasha Golden and Jessica Golden; her cherished sisters, Felipa Vargas, Carmen Cotten, Argentina Leguizamon, Altagracia Leguizamon, Norma Leguizamon, and Victoria Romano; and many extended family members and friends who will miss her dearly.
She was predeceased by her brother, Domingo Leguizamon.
Fatima will be remembered for her radiant smile, her joyful laugh, and the love she gave so freely to everyone around her. Her legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched as a teacher, mentor, mother, and friend.
She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
Visitation will be held at Frederick Funeral Home, 192-15 Northern Boulevard, Flushing, NY 11358, US, on March 19, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
A committal service will be held at St. Michael's Cemetery - Mausoleums/Cremation Niches, 72-02 Astoria Blvd S, East Elmhurst, NY 11370, US, on March 20, 2026, at 11:00 am.
