Beloved husband, partner and friend of Iolanda, (affectionately known to him as Primavera or Vera) to whom he gave his love and devotion through 54 years of marriage. Loving father and grandfather of Deborah Scalone and her husband Rachid Zahir and their children Halima, Safiyya, Idriss, Soumaya, Abdoullah, and Khadija; Laura Scalone Finton and her husband Timothy Finton and their children Rhiannon, Timothy, Luca, Arabella and Matteo; and Steven Scalone and his wife Nichole Scalone and their children Steven, Austin, and Gavin. Dear brother of Loretta LoPrinzi, Nancy Tahany, Elaine Squeri and Richard Scalone. Gil is survived by a large and loving family of sister and brother in laws, cousins, nieces and nephews in Italy and New York.
Gil had a lifelong passion for medicine and was proud to have practiced in the community for 46 years. He shared his compassion and kindness with his patients, their families, his medical students and all of his many colleagues. Gil was always generous with his time, guidance and support. He wanted to be remembered as a caring clinician who treated the whole patient with respect and dignity. Gil will be most remembered for his kind heart, giving nature and infectious smile.
Gil's greatest joys were spending time with family and friends. He and Vera often traveled to Massachusetts, Italy, Morocco and Saudi Arabia to spend time with his beloved children, their spouses, 14 grandchildren and extended family. He was immensely proud of all of their accomplishments but most importantly about the people they have become. Gil's family will carry on his legacy of treating everyone with kindness and lending a helping hand to those in need.
The Scalone family would like to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers at this difficult time. To minimize exposure to any current health risks, there will be no visitation. The Mass of Christian Burial can be viewed live stream at the Holy Family Parish website, www.HolyFamilyFreshMeadows.org on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at 10am. The interment at Mt. St. Mary's Cemetery will follow in a private ceremony. A celebration of life will be planned for all to attend at a later date. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.frederick-fh.com for the Scalone family.
A strong believer in charitable donation, in lieu of flowers, Donations in Gil’s memory can be made to Gilbert R. Scalone, Jr. MD Memorial Gift Fund for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
