James Papadopoulos

He was the beloved husband of the late Dimitra. James was a cherished father to Chris Papadopoulos and his wife Michele, and Maria Tegerides and her husband Timotheos. He was a devoted pappou to his grandchildren: Demetra, Alexander (Vasilia), Emanuel, Ariana, James, Vicki, Demetra, and Sophia. James is also survived by his dear brother, John (Nilza), brothers-in-law Peter Kouzounas ( Helen) and John Kouzounas (Maria).

He was born in a small town village Papparousi, Greece and came to the United States of America in the pursuit of opportunity, and a better life for his family. Not long after his arrival, he proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Following his military service, James worked tirelessly to build a new life in America. Through determination and hard work he brought his family to the United States, fulfilling his dream in providing them with safety, opportunity , and a better future. His sacrifice laid the foundation for generations to come. James soon after, married Dimitra and build his family on faith, love, and integrity. He was known for his strong work ethic, quiet strength, and unwavering devotion to his family. He instilled in them the values of perseverance, integrity and gratitude. Though his journey began far from this country, he made America his home and his legacy lives through those he loved. James was a proud member of AHEPA and a dedicated member of Sillogos Evrytanon Amerikis "Panagia Proussiotisa."

The visitation will be held at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Shrine Church, located at 196-10 Northern Blvd, Flushing , NY 11358, on Thursday, January 29, 2026, from 9:00 am to 10:00 am. The Funeral Liturgy will follow at the same location from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. Interment will take place at Flushing Cemetery, 163-06 46th Ave, Flushing, NY 11358, from 11:15 am to 11:30 am.

James will be remembered for his kindness, his dedication to his family, and his love for both his Greek and American heritage.
