On Friday, November 20, 2020, James P. Venuti, devoted husband and father of four children, passed away at the age of 90. James was born on June 14, 1930 in Flushing, NY to Madeline and James. He graduated from St. Michael’s grammar school, Flushing High School, & Queens College. He became an accountant in 1960 where he practiced accounting for 60 years and started his own successful family firm. On November 25, 1950, he married Madeline Carrozzo. They raised two sons, James and Stephen, and two daughters, Laurie and Maria. James was a devout Catholic who served as an Eucharistic minister for many years in the parish of St. Mary’s Nativity. He was a volunteer in pastoral care at St. Francis Hospital. He loved his family dearly and enjoyed watching all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow up. He loved talking and watching sports, his favorite teams include the Yankees and Giants. He could outrun anyone and certainly beat them in a game of stickball. James was someone whose brain worked faster than a calculator, the person who would check the bill at a restaurant by reviewing every item to make sure it was added correctly. He enjoyed tax season and loved seeing his clients yearly. He was extremely generous, kind, caring and would help anyone who asked. He was an avid storyteller and could captivate the room with his stories or anecdotes. James personified what it meant to be a gentleman for he was truly a gentle-man. James was preceded in death by his father, James Sr., his mother, Madeline, and daughter-in-law Christine. He is survived by his wife Madeline, his brother and sister-in law Robert and Anne; brother-in-law, Carmine, his four children, James, Stephen, Laurie, Maria; son-in-law Sean, daughters-in-law Donna and Julia; grandchildren Lisa, Jennifer and Joe, James IV, Alexandria and Nicholas, Kristen and Thomas, Sean and Jenna, Gina and Michael, Andrew and Alyssa, Thomas and Denise, Vittoria, and Toni-Ann; and great grandchildren Christopher, Justin, Michael, Isabella, Abigail,Thomas Jr., and one on the way, many cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

My condolences to Madeleine and to the entire Venuti Family. I can still remember the day I walked down the block (165th Street) in 1960 or so and met the Venuti boys and the rest of the family You were always one of the boys, Jimmy, and yes, a very fast sprinter and fine stickball player! Thanks for all you did for making our block a great place to grow up. Rest In Peace, Brother.
