John J. Haney Jr.

July 30, 1953 - February 1, 2016

Milford, PA

John was born July 30,1953 in Astoria, NY to John and Joan Haney. He grew up in Levittown, NY and was an Island Trees High School class of '71 graduate. Shortly after he served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War from 71-75. In 1978 he married Susan Lykes of Farmingdale, NY and resided in West Islip, NY where they started a family. Later in 1991, with their 2 children they relocated and raised their family in Pike County, PA. John was a member of the Shohola Fire Department for many years, coached Babe Ruth Baseball for 5 years and also helped with local children's charities. He was an active member of the 1st Presbyterian Church of Milford and had recently retired from Hockenberry's Garage in Sparrow Bush, NY. Many will remember him for his love of his family, fishing, rock n roll, cars and sense of humor.

He is survived by his daughter Melissa Haney, son John Haney III, grandson Maximus Diffenderfer, ex-wife and best friend Susan Haney, sisters Maryanne Haney, Joan Shapiro and Patricia Murphy.

Viewing will be held Sunday February 7th from 1-5pm at Frederick Funeral Home 19215 Northern Blvd, Flushing, NY 11358. Burial will be Monday February 8th at 12pm in Calverton National Cemetery.
