Jose was born on November 11, 1948 to Isaura and Jose Bonilla. Jose proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1968-1972, with deployments including the Vietnam War. Jose lovingly married his sweetheart Marilyn Vargas on December 16,1972, celebrating 49 years of marriage. He began his career as a New York State Dispatcher in 1978, proudly retiring after 36 years of service in 2011.
Jose was a very active member in his Oakland Gardens community. He loved the fellowship and relationships he developed over 55 years at various churches including First Reform Church of America, Bellerose Assembly of God, Christ Tabernacle and most recently First Presbyterian Church of Flushing.
Our beloved Jose, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, spent most of his days helping people. He loved baseball- “Let’s GO Mets!”, fixing cars, swimming, photography, bike riding, playing taxi for his family & friends, going to the movies with his wife on Saturday mornings and being everyone's right hand man.
Jose is survived by his wife, Marilyn Bonilla; his siblings, Rosie, Jenny and Bobby; his son Jose Antonio Bonilla, his wife Celina and their children-Christian, Elizabeth and Isabella; his daughter, Cristina Reid, her husband Jerime and her daughters Gabriella and Cristiana.
