

Joseph C. Hennessy was born in 1938 County Cork, Ireland. He immigrated to America in 1957. He served in the United States Army and was stationed in Frankfurt , Germany with none other than, Elvis Presley. In 1963, Joseph married Catherine Jane, and in the ensuing years they were blessed with three daughters: Patricia, Karen, and Sheila. In the years to come, the blessings continued with eight grandchildren. He credited his wife Catherine for his success due to her infinite love and support. In addition to being a loving husband, father, and grandfather, he wore many other hats. He managed a New York City Yellow Taxi Fleet for over 50 years and was known amongst family and friends as “The Best Tour Guide of New York City”. He knew all the hidden gems in the city AND the fastest way to get to them! He held the honorable position of Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus and was very involved in numerous church organizations throughout his lifetime. Joseph's contributions to his local Queens community were immeasurable. He was Chairman of Queens Community Board 6 and President of the Board of Directors, Forest Hills MHA Housing Development Fund Corporation for over 30 years. While his involvement and contribution in the community was immense, he was never prouder than attending one of his daughter's' many events. Joseph was a constant presence as he supported his daughters in all of their endeavors; beginning in elementary school all the way through college. That included:Irish Dancing Feis, college plays, basketball and softball games. Throughout the more recent years, he would be seen following his grandchildrens' exploits in school related activities and sports.This past June, he made his last trip back to Ireland. He was delighted and thrilled to be able to share it with his eldest granddaughter, Maya. Joseph is survived by his loving wife Catherine J. nee McDermott, daughters- Patricia Hennessy, Karen Hennessy-Bernsley, son-in-law David, Sheila Hennessy -Thomas, son-in-law John, grandchildren -Maya, Brendan, Luke, Keira, Sydney, Madison, Lana and Austin. Along with brothers Jerry Hennessy, wife Marie and John Hennessy, wife Pat and his sister-in-law Louise McDermott, in addition to all his nieces, nephews and grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Joseph’s generous, calm and loving presence will be tremendously missed by all who knew and loved him.
