Born on August 18, 1951 in Astoria, Queens, he was the first-born son of Frank Vitale and Mary Alu. Graduating in 1969 from Bishop Reilly HS near the top of his class, he went on to St. John's University, becoming the first in his family to attend college. He was recruited to what would become a long career in management for Pathmark supermarkets and most recently was a census taker. It was his attention to detail and personality that made him successful, but to the people that knew and loved him, it was his thoughtfulness and generosity that defined him. He found true enjoyment in coming to the rescue... in being there for people in a jam when they needed a hand for a quick fix or long-term support. He always enjoyed a good cup of coffee, cookies and a nice glass of wine.
Although he lived in Queens all his life, he loved to travel, and was a
die-hard Mets fan. He famously brought homemade manicotti to family gatherings. He loved his family and friends always, was a caring husband, father and grandfather, a great brother and brother-in-law, amazing uncle and godfather. He truly loved his granddaughter Ava.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Carolyn, his former wife, Karla, their son Jason, his brother Frank and his nieces Stephanie & Diana and nephew Matthew.
