

Josephine Proietto, a long-time resident of Flushing/Whitestone, NY, died Friday, December 15, after a tough battle with dementia. Born April 14, 1936, to Vincent and Antoinette Cucinella. She was the oldest daughter and had a younger sister, Grace.
Josephine grew up in Manhattan, where she met her husband, Nicholas Occhiogrosso. They married in 1957, resided first in Corona, and then Flushing, and finally moved to Whitestone. Nicholas passed away from a stroke in 1986. Josephine met Francesco Proietto in 1987 and they married in 1989. Francesco passed away from cancer in 2018. Josephine is survived by her sister Grace, and her children Mary Ann Catapano (Tony), Ronald Occhiogrosso (Fran), and Annette Freda (Joe); Grandchildren Josette, Edward, Nicholas, Veronica, Vincent, Andrew, Frank, David, Patricia, Joanna, and Joseph Junior, and 16 Great-grandchildren.
A visitation for Josephine will be held on Monday and Tuesday from 3-5 PM and 7-9 PM at Frederick Funeral Home 192-15 Northern Blvd, Flushing, NY 11358.
