Ligia Vanderlinde was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, on November 30, 1925, to Rosario Vidal and Manuel Creales. She lived a long and full life, passing away peacefully on March 19, 2026, at the remarkable age of 100.
She was raised in the Dominican Republic, where she lived with her children until 1969, when she moved to the United States. She later settled on the West Side of Manhattan, where she built a career in the banking industry, working with import and export accounts.
Ligia was a resilient and generous person, which came through in her love of baking and cooking for her family. She enjoyed classical music, acting, and drawing. She was a devout member of her church, and her faith was an important part of her life. She was generous with her time and love for her family, always preparing extra food to make sure everyone was fed and taking pride in making her home a warm and welcoming place for all. She had a wonderful sense of humor and continued to make jokes, bringing laughter to those around her until her very last days. Above all, she cherished her family, a love that only grew stronger with each generation.
She was blessed with a large and loving family and is survived by her five children: Rosanna, Vanessa, Martin, Gustavo, and Patricia; her two nieces, Elsa and Carmencita; her nine grandchildren, Jonathan, Gustavo, Christina, Sarah, Laura, Joshua, Alexis, Dylan, and Nicole; and her nine great-grandchildren, Ryheem, Isaiah, Logan, Noah, James, Aaron, Delilah, Naomi, and Della, all of whom she had the joy of knowing.
Her love and legacy will live on through her family.
Visitation will be held at Frederick Funeral Home, 192-15 Northern Boulevard, Flushing, NY 11358, US, on March 24, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A private cremation will follow.
