Lourdes (Luding) Cadavillo Mortel Bautista was born on February 11, 1922 in Lucena City, Quezon Province, Philippines to Emeteria Abuel Cadavillo and Nicasio Salvanera Cadavillo. She lived here for most of her youth with her brothers and sisters, Eusebio A. Cadavillo, Sixto A. Cadavillo, Beatriz A. Cadavillo Quijano, Carolina A. Cadavillo Zapanta, and Mariano A. Cadavillo.
Lourdes fell in love at a young age to Dominador Vergara Mortel, married shortly before the World War, and had five beautiful children together: Avelina Cadavillo Mortel Capito, Mario Cadavillo Mortel, Grace Cadavillo Mortel Ubaldo, Imelda Cadavillo Mortel Tordesillas, and Angelica Cadavillo Mortel Bautista. Dominador was a WWII veteran and served under General MacArthur of the US Armed Forces in the Far East (USAFFE). Lourdes was a military spouse and ultimately a widow. She was a strong woman and caring mother who supported her children by working as a pharmacist at her family owned drug store.
In 1976, Lourdes immigrated to the United States along with her children in search of better opportunities and to chase the American dream. She loved her Filipino food and splurged on NY cheesecake for dessert. Whenever there was a family gathering, she would bring cheesecake with strawberries on top for dessert. She worked for the New York City Department of Human Resources Administration serving her fellow New Yorkers for over 12 years while also caring for her grandchildren: Alessandra, Oliver, Isabel, Roland, Abigail, Lourdes, Rachel, Bernard, Ronald, Angelica, Aveline, and Dominique. She was a loving grandmother who always put family first. She would always entertain us with her beautiful melodies on the piano and shared her love of music with us. She was truly a gifted musician who could impress anyone within an earshot of her piano ballads.
At the tender age of 75, she gave love a second chance when she met Jose (Joe) Guevarra Bautista at the Queens Senior Citizens Center. They fell in love and soon after married at the Immaculate Conception Church in Jamaica Estates. Lourdes and Joe resided in both Queens and the Bronx before Joe’s passing. Lourdes also resided in Chicago prior to her final residence at the Ozanam Nursing Home in Bayside, Queens.
Lourdes was a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great grandmother whom we will always remember and miss with all of our hearts. She taught us love, strength, respect, and to treat everyone with kindness. As much as she showed loved, she received love in full return. We will honor her by walking in her footsteps and passing her memories to her great grandchildren: Jonathan, Matthew, Alexa, Oliver Jr., Kylani, Betty, Ava, Trey, Chase, Brie, Kassidy, Cameron, Hailey, Hudson, Grayson, Valor Lourd, and Rion. Along with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, she is survived by her children, Avelina, Mario, Grace, Imelda (deceased), and Angelica.
For 101 years, Lourdes was faithful in God and charitable to his church, nonprofit organizations, and the community. May Lourdes rest in eternal peace. Amen.
John 11:25-26
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die.”
