Marie P. McGowan

Marie P. McGowan, 80, died March 25, 2026. Born May 19, 1945, in Wildwood Crest, NJ. Marie was deeply loved and held a special place in the hearts of all who knew her. She was a resident of Brentwood, TN, former resident of Flushing, NY.

Marie will be remembered as Hugh’s adored wife of 58 years for whom her love never wavered. She was the beloved mother of Susan McGowan, Sharon (Emily Hecht-McGowan) McGowan, Heather (Anthony) Plank, and Hugh McGowan. She was the cherished MomMom of Rhys, Juliet & Keira Plank and Sadie & Shaia McGowan and the sister of Nancy Gutek. Marie was proceeded in death by her parents J. Morgan & Adelaide Pierpont and brother Jay Pierpont.

Marie’s life was anchored by her love for her family. She was an active member of the St. Kevin RC Church where she served as a member of the choir, parish council, and as a leader of song during mass. With her big smile, raised arms, and sincere encouragement, she could convince even the most reluctant parishioner to join her in song. Her family affectionately referred to her as their songbird. She began her working life as a High School History Teacher in New Jersey and later as a Substitute Teacher in the Diocese of Queens. Later, she served as Parish Secretary at St. Kevin for many years. She delighted in portraying Mrs. Claus numerous times at St. Kevin Catholic Academy but her most treasured moments were spent with her four children and five grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at Frederick Funeral Home, 192-15 Northern Boulevard, Flushing, NY 11358, on Tuesday April 7, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at St. Kevin RC Church, 45-21 194th Street, Flushing, NY 11358 at 9:45am.

Interment will follow at Mt. St. Mary's Cemetery, 172-00 Booth Memorial Avenue, Flushing, NY 11358.
