Martha Pizarro wasn’t just my brother’s mother-in-law I’d like to feel she was mine too she was thee model mother-in-law as a matter of fact she had an infectious laugh and she literally knew how to light up a room Thanksgiving was always great because she made the best turkey I’ve ever tasted in my life and she knew it too! I look forward to holidays just because it always felt warm when she was around and she knew how to make you feel welcome. I’ll never forget some good advice she told me and I guess because it was coming from her and the person she is and it was so genuine she said to me you should always hug your mother for some reason those words always sit in my head because she was a hugger but when she hugged you she meant it. I’ll miss my mother-in-law in my head coolest mother-in-law ever had. 

Vanessa and I met Martha working at Verizon about 22 years ago. Martha worked in the same department as Vanessa, but us 4 ladies including, Yolanda, would have breakfast together every morning and spent our lunchtime together; whether going to a restaurant or shopping at Macy’s. She took us in as bonus daughters and always worried about taking care of us. She had a heart of gold and a good soul. She would always check in on us to make sure we were ok, and we saw her as a second mom. We shared many wonderful memories together. Our friendship and love for each other went beyond the walls of the work place. Martha took part in family celebrations and served as our constant cheerleader. One of the saddest days for Vanessa and I was when she was let go from the company. We would miss our daily interaction with her. A major part of our routine had been taken away. As sad as we were that she was no longer working with us, we were equally as excited for the new opportunities that awaited her. As the years went on, she always kept in touch with us. Her loss is immeasurable. We pray and know that she’s now resting in the arms of the Lord and no longer suffering. We will forever miss her and carry her in our hearts. 

Vanessa is one of my closest friends since childhood and i have wonderful memories of her mother, Martha Pizarro. She was an amazing woman who I always admired and held tremendous respect for. She had a great sense of humor yet retained a seriousness only understood by warriors. Martha alone, raised her two children Vanessa and Jonathan, and always put every single ounce of energy she had into providing them with the best. An extremely warm, strong, and passionate person, Martha had a zest for life and a fierce love for her family. 

Along the way, she also touched the lives of many others, myself included. As a young girl, i faced difficulties at home. Vanessa speaks of people fed by her mother's kind hand. In their home, I not only had a plate of food but more importantly, was provided with a safe haven. It is very true that we often have no idea how much the things we do mean to other people. I know without a doubt that God put Vanessa and her family in my life. I will be forever indebted and grateful for their kindness. I want to thank Martha for opening her heart, kitchen and home to me, and for bringing a daughter into this world who has stood by me my whole life. I know Vanessa will carry on Martha's legacy with grace, strength, elegance and wit. I look forward to watching her continue to achieve greatness in life...and know Martha will be watching from Heaven along with me....with all the proudness in the world.
