Michael was born on November 22, 1931 in Kissamos, Crete, Greece to Antonia and Stylianos Lioudakis. He was the youngest of 5, predeceased by his sisters Marika and Panayiota, and brothers Manoli and Niko.
On August 18, 1963, he married Panagiota (Patricia) Kiriakakis, who survives him. Michael and Panagiota enjoyed nearly 60 years together in a loving and supportive marriage, which he treasured. He resided in Whitestone, NY and recently moved to Holmdel, NJ to be closer to his children. Michael loved Crete, but he equally loved this country where he spent two-thirds of his life, as it offered him the opportunity to give his family a bright future. He worked his way up from washing dishes to eventually owning a restaurant, and working at Friar’s Coffee Shop in NYC near the United Nations, until his retirement. He loved to tend a garden, tango, waltz, listen and dance to Cretan music, cook, make Greek coffee, and recently bird-watch. In his retirement, he was fortunate to travel to distant beautiful places with his wife and close friends. His kindness, selflessness, humility, and patience through any adversity were astounding. He exuded calmness, love to all, and it filled him to help others in any way that he could. His greatest joy was admiring his children, grandchildren and celebrating life. He will always be remembered for his devotion to his wife and family. He left us with many life lessons and we are all blessed to have known him, a true gentleman.
Along with Panagiota, Michael is survived by his daughter Antonia Laros and her husband Louis and their children Maria, Panayiota, and Yianni of Champaign, IL; daughter Katherine Kiafoulis and her husband Efthymios and their children Kyriaki and Petro of Middletown, NJ; and son Michael Lioudakis Jr. and his wife Teresa and their children Nicholas and Renee of Lincroft, NJ. He also leaves behind his dear brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gus and Kiki Kiriakakis, and his niece and nephews Angelina, Kosta and Niko, their respective families, as well as nieces and nephews in Crete.
