Noemi Mascarenas, 87, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2026, deeply loved and cherished by her family. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to many, she will be remembered for her remarkable strength, wisdom, unwavering faith, and generous heart.
Born in Manila, Philippines, on July 3, 1939, Noemi grew up in a close-knit family that instilled in her the importance of education, hard work, and faith, values she carried with her throughout her life.
Noemi moved to the US in the 1960s, working as a Certified Public Accountant for American Express, before rising to lead all of Payroll Accounting for NYC Health + Hospitals, the largest municipal health care system in the US. Well into her eighties she continued preparing tax returns for family and friends out of kindness, a reflection of her generous spirit and sharp mind.
Family was the center of Noemi's world. She shared a loving marriage with Cresencio Mascarenas, a real estate attorney and fellow CPA. She demonstrated remarkable strength and resilience following his passing in 2002. Her beloved sister, Teresa Herrera, was a constant presence throughout her life. Together, they shared a home, countless memories, and an extraordinary bond of love and companionship. Noemi was preceded in death by her parents, Araceli and Florencio Herrera.
Noemi was a fiercely devoted mother who wanted the very best for her daughters, Teresa (Jeff) and Eloisa (Darryl). She also lovingly cared for her grandchildren, Aiden and Emilia, when they were young, teaching them Catholic religious studies and prayers at home and passing down the faith that was so central to her life. With her younger grandchildren, Sage and Sienna, she delighted in playful moments and shared laughter, taking immense pride in both girls.
Noemi also found great joy in life's simpler pleasures: cooking for loved ones, sharing delicious meals, enjoying desserts, and gathering with friends, of which she had so many. She also treasured summers spent with family at homes in Cullera, Spain and Rockaway Beach.
A devout Catholic, Noemi's faith was a guiding force throughout her life. Her devotion to prayer, particularly the Rosary and the Santo Niño, reflected her enduring belief in God and the power of faith.
Though she is no longer with us in this life, her family finds comfort in their faith that her soul lives on, and that she is joyfully reunited with her beloved husband, daughter, and parents.
Her strength, love, faith, and unforgettable spirit will remain with those who knew and loved her.
