Pedro H. Goyanes was born on June 1, 1941, in Muros, Spain. In his early 20’s, he joined the Merchant Marines and traveled the world for seven years before landing in New York City. He met Violeta A. Perez in Jackson Heights and their first date was the Man of La Mancha movie. They made their home in Briarwood, Queens celebrating 52 years of marriage this past April. He carried with him a deep pride in coming to this country and in many ways, he felt like he had fulfilled the promise of the American Dream with his family.
Pedro proudly dedicated 31 years of steadfast service to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), maintaining city buses as a mechanic until his retirement in 2007. A testament to his skills is his still-running 31-year-old Pontiac Bonneville. His talent extended beyond engines and transmissions; he was incredibly resourceful around his home. From 1010 Wins turning on with the bathroom light to the woodshed he built himself for all his tools to the enormous bounty of cherry tomatoes he grew every summer, his touch is everywhere on the property.
Level-headed and with a kind, tender side, Pedro showed his love through acts of service, bringing comfort to all those he loved. His tenacity and work ethic were instilled into his two daughters, and even in his hardest moments, he treated them like his treasures. He was always a steady and reliable rock for everyone in his family, especially for his wife, his girls, and the families of his beloved brothers and sister—Miguel, Jose Ramon and Manuela. His devotion and unconditional love for them remained a defining constant throughout his life.
Pedro passed away serenely on October 16, 2026, surrounded by so much love. He is survived by his beloved wife Violeta A. Goyanes, his daughters Maria Manuela Goyanes and Cristina Dolores Goyanes, and his son-in-law Lampros Mountrakis. Pedro has a granddaughter on the way this December, who will get to know him through the wonderful memories of not only his immediate family, but also his nieces and nephews John Michael, Richard, Maria Jose, Ramon, Jose Ramon, Pedro Javier, and countless friends he loved.
