Peter James Margiotta
June 26, 1928 – December 15, 2018
Peter J. Margiotta, a long-time resident of Flushing NY, died Saturday the 15th of December. Born in 1928 in Queens, Peter received a bachelor's degree from New York University. Following college, Peter served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Upon his return from military service, Peter pursued his lifelong passion for electronics and engineering. For nearly 50 years, Peter worked for Con Edison. One of Peter's greatest accomplishments was restoring power to NYC during a major blackout in 1983. In fact, Peter helped restore power 2 days earlier than what was promised to the mayor. Peter was a jovial man who always encouraged people to "smile" and he never passed up an opportunity to tell a story. He also cherished his role as a mentor to those that worked with him at Con Edison. In addition to taking great pride in caring for his younger brother Joseph, he was dedicated to the Catholic church and enjoyed pastimes that included fishing, photography, winemaking, cooking pasta, and taking his nieces around Manhattan. Peter is survived by his brother Joseph, sister-in-law Evelyne, cousin Lilda Williams, nieces Patricia and Jenny, nephew-in-law Domenic, grand-niece Emma, and grand-nephew Leo. In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation in memory of Peter J. Margiotta to Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers at P.O. Box 302, Maryknoll, NY 10545 or at maryknollsociety.org. The funeral will be held Saturday, 12/22 at 9:30am in St. Michael's Church in Flushing. The Quinn-Fogarty Funeral Home in Flushing has been entrusted with arrangements and a viewing.
