Raymond Albert Stuart, son of the late Frederick and Sarah Stuart was born October 12, 1931, in Clarendon, Jamaica, West Indies. He attended the St. Aloysius elementary school. As a young man, Raymond demonstrated a natural inclination towards understanding how things worked and how to fix them. He loved to work with his hands and tinker with anything which aroused his curiosity. This, coupled with his love for automobiles, led him to a career in the auto mechanic field.
Desiring to professionally work on automobiles, Raymond trained as an apprentice at the upscale car dealership John Crooke, Ltd. in Kingston Jamaica. From 1951-1968, Raymond with hard work and dedication worked his way up to lead mechanic.
As a lead mechanic, experiencing great success and highly respected by his peers, he desired a better life with enhanced opportunities outside of Jamaica. This was a bold, courageous move leaving familiarity and comfort behind to venture into the unknown. With his unwavering work ethic and determination to succeed, he was more than up for the challenge. On April 28th 1968, Raymond moved to the United States.
Raymond and Kathleen worked diligently for five years and became proud homeowners in Queens, New York. During his years in New York, he had several positions as a mechanic and eventually retired from the Metropolitan Transit Authority of the State of New York in 2000.
In 2016, After 43 years living in their home in Queens, Raymond and his wife Kathleen, moved to Maryland to be close to family. He spent hours enjoying word find games and eagerly sought opportunities to do small home projects. He was an extremely active grandparent. He enjoyed taking his grandkids to get ice cream, picking them up from school, and staying abreast with all of their activities. Raymond was a man of high integrity, a perfectionist, one who was always on time and believed in being accountable. He frequently demonstrated these characteristics to his grandchildren leaving them with fond memories and successful traits that they can incorporate into their lives.
Raymond made his transition to be with the Lord on September 26, 2018. He leaves with cherished memories his wife Kathleen Stuart, daughter Jannette Stuart, son Michael Stuart, daughter-in-law Angela Stuart, daughter Nadine Brown, son-in-law Arik Brown, grandchildren Trevor Stuart, Sydney Stuart, Alexis Brown, Joshua Brown, brothers, Joseph Stuart, Winston Stuart, Ernest Stuart, sisters Leontine McMorris, Eugenie O’Rane, a plethora of nieces, nephews and friends across the globe.
