Tranquilina A. Capito was born on December 13, 1943 in Malued, Dagupan City, Pangasinan, Philippines to Narciso Bato Capito and Alejandra Agpoon Capito. Tranquilina or “Nena,” as she was lovingly called by family and friends was the fourth of eight siblings: Felicitas Pascual (deceased), Maximino Capito, Celsa Capito (deceased), Leonila A. Capito (deceased), Fridesvinda Capito (deceased), Salvador Capito (deceased), and Henry Capito.
Nena attended Malued Elementary School and then Dagupan City High School. She went on to receive a Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education (BSEEd) from the University of Pangasinan. After graduating, she started her career as an elementary school teacher at Lucao Elementary School. She loved her students and continued teaching for many years.
Though teaching was her true calling, Nena bravely chose to leave the Philippines and immigrate to the United States in pursuit of a better life. In the US, she reunited with her older brother Max, older sister Celsa (deceased), and younger brother Henry who resided in Queens, NY. Her younger sister Ening would soon follow. Nena secured a role as an Eligibility Specialist for the Human Resources Administration of the City of New York, dedicating several years to those in need of government assistance until her retirement.
In her free time, Nena delighted in cooking and tending to her garden, which was always adorned with vibrant plants, many of which she had nurtured back to life. Her home radiated warmth and beauty, thanks to her green thumb. An animal lover at heart, she cherished the companionship of their beloved family dog Zoey. Additionally, her passion for travel took her to various countries, where she eagerly embraced and learned about various cultures.
For 82 years, Nena was a faithful servant of God. With her kind and generous spirit, she has touched the lives of her family, donated to charitable organizations, and faithfully supported her church. Nena will always be remembered as a beloved sister, aunt, and friend. She is survived by her two brothers Max and Henry, as well as her nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Her memory will live on forever through the stories she told, the recipes she shared, and the traditions she created.
Eternal rest grant unto Tranquilina, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace. Amen.
