

Hospital to James Kientzler and Anne Kientzler, née Heiminck. He is predeceased by his
younger brother Richard. William grew up in Astoria, New York. After a brief turn at
Stuyvesant High School in Manhattan he enlisted in the Navy and was stationed in the
Caribbean on an aircraft carrier the USS Boxer.
He was assigned the position of ships clerk, where he oversaw the procurement of provisions
and other specialty items for the crew.
After his discharge from the Navel services with the assistance of his father, a stage
performer, comedian and actor, he became a member of IATSE Local 52 the union that
represents Motion Picture technicians in New York City. He began his career involved in stage
work for the 1964 World’s Fair and progressed to becoming a member of the Property
Department. William maintained a successful, fulfilling 50-year career as a Property Master on
many films, commercials and television shows.
He is remembered as a thoughtful, patient man who would always take the time to carefully
explain procedures and techniques to those he worked with. His sense of humor and grace is
notorious throughout the film community as well as with his friends and family. He also
possessed a lifelong passion for automobiles, classic and contemporary. No mention of
William would be complete without acknowledging his love of cuisine. He was known for
seeking out obscure restaurants in cities as well as far reaching corners of rural America.
William is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary Jane Kane, 2 daughters Dierdre & Heather
(George) and 2 Grandsons, William & Richard. He will be dearly missed.
