Abraham Daniel “Danny” Fishbein, 98, of New York, NY and Pembrook Pines, Florida, sadly left us on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, following a short battle with Renal and Congestive heart failure. A funeral service will be held in his honor at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, February 9, 2024, at Cedar Park Cemetery in Paramus, NJ. Please meet at the office.
Danny was born in New York City on February 24, 1925. His parents were Isadore and Sarah Fishbein. He was married to Ruth Freiberg for 48 years until she died on April 14, 1995. He is survived by his loving daughter, Sharon Cohen. His elder two sisters and brother predeceased him.
He served in the US military near the end of WWII. He was always very proud of his service to his country.
Following the end of the war Danny made his way in several odd jobs including driving a taxi, repairing sewing machines and working at a garage before he found a more long term career. Danny worked in Manhattan at the 34th Street Post Office delivering parcel posts for approximately 23 years. He enjoyed this job because it afforded him the opportunity to meet some famous personalities, such as Katherine Hepburn and Dina Merril.
He was also an active member of the Knights of Pythias, a fraternal organization in both Queens and Pembroke Pines, Florida for several decades. He enjoyed both the camaraderie and charitable intent of the Knights.
However, from a very young age, Danny’s true aspiration was to be in the spotlight. As a self taught musician, he played several instruments including the piano, mandoline, and the harmonica. He also excelled at doing impersonations of famous actors such as Peter Lorrie and Rodney Dangerfield, and delighted audiences by telling jokes, dancing and singing songs favored by the likes of Frank Sinatra and Andy Williams. He was happiest when he was performing. Even in his final years he would entertain residents at an independent living/ Memory care unit regularly.
He will be best remembered for the love and support he offered his daughter during emotionally difficult times.
A Graveside service will be held Friday, February 9, 2024 at 12:45 PM at the Cedar Park Cemetery in Emerson New Jersey.
