Mr. Trester helped introduce me to my life long love of the guitar in 1979 at PS 19. He was immensely patient, encouraging and demanding all at once. I think of him often, and am glad he was one of my teachers at PS 19.

My Deepest Sympathy to the Trester Family. He was a Great Inspiration to many of us. Even though I was extremely shy he still had a way to make me perform in front of all. I thank him for that!

Mr. Trester was one of a kind!  I was his student @ P.S. 19 and I have never met another music teacher like him!!    His passion for music was contagious!  I still remember all those songs he taught us!   My condolences to his wife and family!  I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers!

Mr. Trester was the best music teacher. He made every day during my elementary school years the best of my life. I learned to play the recorder and the guitar because of him. His assemblys were the best. P.S.19 will always be the best years of my life and Mr. Trester played a huge part in that. Thank you Mr. Trester.

He was my first music teacher and my first music mentor who made me appreciate music to the extent that I made it my career choice. I will miss him terribly. I owe a lot to him! Rest in peace my friend! :-(

It was sad to hear of Mr. Trester's passing on Facebook.  Mr. Trester made sure all the kids in P.S. 19 not only learned music but also to appreciate it in its most beautiful form.  My husband and I were both privileged to be his students.  He will always be remembered and never forgotten. Our 9yr old daughter is learning to play the recorder and it brings us back wonderful memories of Mr. Trester teaching us "Hot Cross Buns" on them. Our deepest sympathies to his family during this difficult time.

Our school ,PS 19, was made a very special place because of  Bernie Trester. His music filled the hallways and classrooms. It brought joy to so many over such a long period of time. So many children came to love music because of his lightheated approach to teaching  it. The student and teacher shows we did for so many years were successes in large part to Bernie. I know that somewhere in heaven the choirs are rejoicing because a new musical maestro is there to condut .I will never forget my  connection to Bernie Trester. I will forever remember him sitting at his piano  guiding me as Peter Pan, Cinderella, and  Annie Oakley. He made me laugh and made my heart sing for so many years. I extend my sympathy to Naomi and  his family. I will treasure my memories of Bernie and the wonderful musical legacy he left behind.  Carol Sym

All my best to the Trestor family. I was in his 6th grade class. I still play my recorder and all the songs he taught us from My Fair Lady.  I remember playing "Runaway" in a concert like it was yesterday and I am 62. I would be there tomorrow but I am out of town.
