We mourn the loss of Clara (Caly) Koatz, nee Belacovsky, who passed on Monday, July 26, 2021. Caly was born in Rosario, Argentina on September 16, 1926. She was the youngest of four children. Her father escaped the Russian-Japanese war and made his way to Argentina, where he met Caly's mother, who had been raised in one of Argentina's Jewish Gaucho settlements.
Caly was studying to become a pharmacist when she met her beloved, Angel Koatz, who was studying to become a doctor at a neighboring university. In 1958, the two emigrated to the United States, with their 11-month-old son, Fernando. A year later, their second son, Ronald, was born.
Caly spent her life dedicated to her family. She was intellectually curious, well read and cared deeply about social justice. Caly also loved spending time talking, long hours, with friends and family. She will be greatly missed.
Caly is survived by her two sons, Fernando and Ronald, and her five grandchildren, Sarah, Justin, Binya, Ashley and Gabriel.
