Donald Lee Bandel passed away on January 10th 2024 after a sudden illness. Born on July 27th, 1945 at Brooklyn Women’s Hospital, he was one of three children to Murray and Malvina Bandel. Donald grew up in Fresh Meadows, New York and graduated from Francis Lewis High School in 1963. After completing a B.A. degree in Art History from Queen’s College, he decided to devote his life to education. He then pursued and successfully completed a M.S. in Elementary Education (C.W. Post College) and a M.S. in Educational Administration (St. John’s University). For the next 43 years, he devoted himself to working with emotionally and economically disadvantaged children in some of the poorest communities in several cities: New York, Philadelphia and Hartford. His charm, wit and “attention to detail” while navigating life’s challenges will sorely be missed. He is survived by his wife, Norita; his twin brother, Robert and sister-in-law, Maria; his sister, Lois and brother-in-law, Albert; his nephew, Jason and his wife, Elana; his nephew, Jonathan and his wife, Jessica; his great nephews Matthew, Ari, and James and great nieces Nicole and Sophie.
