Ellen Oseff of Wallingford, Connecticut passed away on October 5, 2021 the day after she turned 95. She was born in Brooklyn, NY to Dave and Minnie Monheit, one of three children, and while she moved to Connecticut later in life, she remained a New Yorker in her heart.
Ellen worked as an Assistant Controller (Chief Bookkeeper) at Jack Parker Corporation until her retirement in 2012 at the age of 86. She enjoyed mah jongg and all card games, especially poker. She broke the glass ceiling at Ashlar Village, when she became the first woman to join the Friday night poker game. She enjoyed playing video poker at the casinos with her husband and children. She was also an excellent Scrabbler. Above all else, Ellen was social and found enjoyment in spending time with family and friends.
Ellen is survived by her adored children - son Mark Oseff and his wife Dottie, daughters Michelle Dent and her husband David and Donna Shirreffs and her husband Ken, her cherished six grandchildren and their spouses, and twelve great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Ellen is predeceased by her loving and patient husband Jerry, her twin sister Beulah and her brother Irving.
A private graveside ceremony will take place on Thursday, October 7th at Beth David Cemetery in Elmont, N.Y. where Ellen will be laid to rest next to her beloved Jerry, but also head-to-head with her twin sister Beulah and her mother Minnie so that, as Ellen said in life, they could once again play cards together.
Donations can be made to the Masonicare Charity Foundation of Connecticut at masonicare.org in loving memory of Ellen Oseff or please donate to a charity of your choosing.
