Hannah Bernstein, 98, passed away peacefully on her first wedding anniversary, April 4, 2023 in her home in Manhattan. Loving wife to the late Harry Berkowitz and late Irving Bernstein. Beloved mother of Nadine Farquhar. Cherished sister of the late Muriel Radwaner and late Shirley Berkowitz. Amazing grandmother to Gabrielle Farquhar. Family was everything to Hannah and Hannah was everything to her family.
Hannah was wise beyond her years, devoted to her Jewish faith, and deeply engaged in her community. Hannah graduated Hunter College in 1941 with a major in History. Upon graduating college, she worked for the American Jewish Congress and was an active member of the Westchester Jewish Center. After Harry’s death, Hannah took over her late husband’s art gallery in Mamaroneck, New York. She later moved back to Manhattan and worked for several organizations including: the Whitney Museum of American Art, American Women’s Economic Development Council, and the Alzheimer’s Association.
A lover of the arts, politics, long walks across Manhattan, and books; Hannah was a force to be reckoned with. She will be forever missed.
For those who would like to honor Hannah’s memory, a donation may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
